Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s Farm, Food and Enterprise Development program will host a webinar titled, “Becoming an Employer of Choice: What Today’s Workforce Values and Strategies for Attracting and Keeping Employees in Agricultural and Food Systems Settings,” on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to noon.

“In today’s competitive labor market, attracting and retaining skilled employees requires more than a paycheck,” said Alex Van Alstyne, food business extension specialist at Iowa State. “Employers in farm and food settings are facing unique challenges and opportunities for creating rewarding workplaces.”

In the webinar, participants will learn:

  • What today’s workforce values most in farm and food system jobs
  • Effective leadership and management practices that build loyalty and productivity
  • Strategies to attract and retain skilled employees
  • Real-world examples of businesses that have successfully become “employers of choice”

The virtual event is designed for farm owners and managers, food business employers, agricultural human resources professionals and team leaders in farm and food processing settings, but is open to anyone interested in strengthening their workplace culture.

Additionally, the webinar is part of ongoing programming from the new Food Innovation and Business Hub, which connects Iowa entrepreneurs, farmers and food businesses with research-based resources, training and support to help them thrive.

This webinar is available at no cost, but online registration is required.
